Remote Help
← HomeFor Dad - one-time setup
Install these two apps, then apply the family server settings. After that, TJ can help from afar.
- 1. Install Tailscale (keeps the connection simple and private).
- 2. Install RustDesk (the remote help app).
- 3. Apply the family config (button below) - no typing server settings.
- 4. Leave the PC on. When you need help, text TJ your RustDesk ID.
Server hostname in RustDesk: remote.tomasetti.online (same for ID + Relay). Tailscale is recommended so TJ can reach you privately; your router also needs ports 21115-21119 forwarded to the house RustDesk box if you are away from home Wi-Fi.
Apply family server settings
This points RustDesk at remote.tomasetti.online automatically.
ID / Relay server
Copied! Now paste it into RustDesk.
remote.tomasetti.online
- A. Open RustDesk → menu ⋮ next to your ID → Network.
- B. Unlock settings if asked.
- C. Choose Import Server Config, paste, then Apply.
Advanced: after installing RustDesk, run the PowerShell script as Administrator, or place RustDesk2.toml under %APPDATA%\RustDesk\config\.
For TJ - connect
Use RustDesk with the same family server settings. Ask Dad for his RustDesk ID when he needs help.
RustDesk releasesBrowser alternative
If RustDesk is not available, Guacamole still works in a browser.
